The band is in great demand for concerts across the UK and has conducted numerous tours throughout Europe and the USA. An extensive repertoire spans a broad spectrum of musical styles, often reflected in the band's concert work, which includes music from classical, big band, shows, and traditional repertoires.
Over the years, the band has appeared on numerous TV and radio programmes, including many performances on the BBC's Songs of Praise. Also participates annually in the BBC’s Christmas radio broadcast from Coventry Cathedral across Coventry & Warwickshire.
CONTEST SUCCESS
The band has achieved numerous contest successes over its distinguished 80-year history. This includes competing at the highest levels, in competitions such as the National Finals, the Grand Shield, the British Open, the All-England Masters, and the USA Open Brass Band Championships. These contests are considered the pinnacle for all brass bands.
BRASS ENSEMBLES
The band's primary activity is performing as a 28-piece brass band; however, they are also often seen in quartets and 10-piece ensembles. Notably, the band also features one of the very few remaining Fanfare Teams, playing on a complete set of traditional fanfare trumpets.
This all-volunteer organisation upholds the traditions of excellence in music making. It focuses on sharing its unique entertainment style to benefit and entertain others with each performance.
OUR HISTORY
The band was formed in Coventry in 1944 by the late Jack Major as the Air Training Corps Band. In earlier years, the band had several name changes, including the Coventry Boys Band, the Coventry School of Music Band, and the Coventry Festival Band.
Over the next 40 years, the band was fortunate to receive sponsorship from two of the UK's largest engineering brands. Between 1982 and 2002, the band was known as 'Rolls Royce (Coventry) Band', and between 2002 and 2022, the Band was known as the 'Jaguar Land Rover Band'. This successful period established the band as one of the UK's most acclaimed brass bands.
In 2023, the band embarked on its next chapter. As many of the band's members travel from across the Midlands, the band adopted the name 'The Brass Band of Central England'.
