Stephen is a dynamic conductor and euphonium player with a distinguished career in the brass band world.

 

He joins BBCE after serving as the Resident Musical Director at the renowned Grimethorpe Colliery Band, having previously worked with many other bands, including Carlton Main Frickley Colliery, Bedford Town, City of Cambridge, and Enderby.

 

Stephen developed a lifelong passion for brass music at an early age while growing up in the Salvation Army. This early interest led him to study euphonium and conducting at the University of Salford under the tutelage of Roy Newsome and David King. He holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree in conducting.

 

With an impressive international résumé, Stephen has performed across Europe, North America, and Australia. He has also made appearances on BBC Radio, television, and even in the acclaimed film "The Full Monty."

 

In addition to his musical accomplishments, Stephen has a strong educational background, having served as a Headteacher and Ofsted inspector. He also has overseas experience in Germany and Malaysia.

 

Together with his wife, Sonja, and their two children, Stephen fosters children from complex backgrounds, demonstrating a strong commitment to the community and nurturing talent both on and off the stage.

Brad was first recognised as an outstanding trombonist studying at the Royal Academy of Music under the tuition of renowned trombonist Dudley Bright and played both tenor and bass trombone with the International Staff Band of the Salvation Army.

 

Brad is now recognised as a leading brass band conductor and has had significant success with Northamptonshire Youth Brass Band, a position he has held for 16 years. ​​​​

Dave Lea's remarkable contribution to the success of the band is recognised with his appointment as Life President. After 30 years of service as the band's Musical Director,

 

Dave is retired from full-time banding but remains an integral part of the band acting as Musical Advisor.​​​​​​
