BRAD TURNBULL
Resident Musical Director
Brad started his musical career as a music scholar at Wellingborough School and a student of Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts before moving to the Royal Academy of Music in London. Here he studied trombone under the tuition of renowned trombonist Dudley Bright and trumpeter James Watson.
During his playing career Brad has had the privilege of performing with the Wallace Collection, at the International Trombone Association conference, and was one of the ‘76 trombones’ in the recording of the CD - London Trombone Sound.
In addition, and for over 10 years, Brad was a member of the world-renowned International Staff Band of the Salvation Army on both tenor and bass trombone.
After his musical studies, Brad's career started as the low brass teacher at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, before joining the teaching team at Northamptonshire Music Performing Arts Trust. It is here where Brad took up the baton, conducting several county ensembles before leading the Northamptonshire Youth Brass Band, a position he has now held for over 14 years.
Under Brad's leadership, Northamptonshire Youth Brass Band has seen considerable success and has been awarded several Gold awards at the National Youth Brass Band Championships, as well as gaining six consecutive awards at the National Festival of Music for Youth. During his tenure Brad has also led the band on tours to Poland, Hungary, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy.
In 2018 Brad accepted an invitation to become the Resident Conductor with the Jaguar Land Rover Band, a Championship Brass Band recognised as one of the country’s leading brass bands.
